The Big Three

Research Task:

Find the career major championship totals for Palmer, Player, and Nicklaus. Create a simple timeline in your notebook showing when each of their major victories occurred. What patterns do you notice? When did their careers overlap most directly? When did each player reach his peak?

Parent-Teacher Note:

The timeline research task in this lesson works well as a visual exercise. Encourage your student to draw it out rather than just list the data. Seeing the three careers laid out chronologically often produces insights — particularly about how Nicklaus’s dominance extended well beyond Palmer’s peak years — that simply reading the statistics does not.
